India is growing at a tremendous pace and the 350 million-strong middle class has buying power unmatched by any other growing nation, according to Infosys Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director S Gopalakrishnan.

He said the country has a large market and the entire world is focused upon it. Many big companies and investors have evinced interest in selling their products to Indian consumers and they are also attracted to the talent available in India, he said.

Speaking at a reception accorded to him at Mar Augusthinose College in his native town of Ramapuram, in Pala here, yesterday, he said as technology is changing, one should keep pace with it by constantly updating skills.

The increase in accessibility of the internet helped make available a wide range of knowledge from a single source, especially about career and job opportunities, for the youth.

At present, the country is in the midst of an information revolution. The research and development wings of most big companies, especially in the field of information technology, have been set up in India.

However, he said about two-thirds of the population are poor and one-third illiterate and such disparities continue to increase in the country. Attempts must be made to mitigate such issues, Gopalakrishnan added.
