Technology consulting firm Accenture India is keen to expand operations in West Bengal, Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee said here.

It has a target of giving employment to 10,000 to 15,000 IT and consulting professionals in phases within a few years, Chatterjee told reporters, adding he had sought details of the expansion plan from its chairman Avinash Vashishta with whom
he interacted at a programme here.

Asked if Accenture's India Operations head had asked for land, he replied, "the company may submit its proposal to the state government".

The company plans to strengthen its manpower from 400 to 1000 immediately and 10,000 to 15,000 in phases within next few years for a bigger share of the booming IT market, Chatterjee said.

Accenture operated in several other places like Noida, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune.

To a question, Chatterjee said that the state government has asked JSW Bengal and Jai Balaji Steel to submit the status within seven days for setting up units at Salboni and Raghunathpur in the state.
