Protest over All India Bar Examination

Updated on: Tuesday, July 26, 2011

More than 500 advocates protested against the conducting of All India Bar Examinations (AIBE) that is being held here.

The advocates agitated in front of the examination centres in Loyola College and Ethiraj College for Women and contended they had already qualified in all the papers while in their the LLB programme during graduation and as such it was not necessary for them to qualify in the AIBE conducted by the Bar Council of India.

The BCI in April last year decided that all students graduating from the academic year 2009-10 need to clear the AIBE in order to practice law in India.

According to the BCI, securing 40 per cent out of 100 marks will see the candidate qualify the AIBE. The exam is being conducted in nine languages across various centres in India.

Chennai has two exam centres one in Loyola College and another in Ethiraj College for Women.
