Eight suspended for using fake certificates

At least eight persons working in different positions under the state government in Orissa's Kandhamal district were suspended for allegedly using fake caste certificates, official sources said.

Fake certificate issue was one of the major factors behind the large-scale ethno-communal riot in Kandhamal in 2008 which claimed about 40 lives.

With tribal population alleging that their rights were being hijacked by others by using fake caste certificate, the state government constituted a special vigilance cell to probe into the matter.

"So far we have registered 1006 fake certificate cases," an official at the District Welfare Office said.
