New college opens world of opportunity for students

Tiruvarur District Collector C. Muniyanathan thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. J. Jayalalithaa for starting a Government Arts College affiliated to the Bharathidasan University at Nannilam in Tiruvarur district on Monday.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the college through video conferencing from Chennai. After she inaugurated the college, the Collector spoke from Nannilam. He said it was heartening to note that closely on the heels of the opening of a Government college at Thiruthuraipoondi, another has been opened at Nannilam in the district. Village students will benefit from the college.

R. Kamaraj, Nannilam MLA also thanked the Chief Minister for opening the college in his assembly constituency.

Vidya, a student who got admission in the college, hails from a poor family with her parents earning daily wages. Happy to have been admitted into the college, she said she would use the opportunity to her advantage.

The college offers B.A. (English), B.Sc. (Mathematics), B.Com and B.B.A. courses. Forty students have been admitted to the B.A. English course, 18 in BBA, 25 in B.Com and 12 in B.Sc Mathematics.

K. Meena, Vice-chancellor, Bharathidasan University participated in the function.
