DU all set for a new academic session

Delhi University prepared to welcome freshers for a new session in which the institution would switch over to a semester mode in all courses.

The University which this year came out with two additional cut-off lists exclusively for OBC candidates, however, still has a few seats vacant in various colleges.

The authorities had asked the colleges not to go ahead with transferring reserved seats to general category students until further notice. In the absence of a fresh directive, therefore, the university will start its session tomorrow with the freeze on conversion of the vacant seats.

The university is finally shifting to a complete semester mode from this year after a prolonged stand-off between the administration and teachers over the issue that led to a delay in revision of syllabi from annual to semester mode.

The university was struggling till the last moment to compile the revised syllabi in various courses and the exam packed new system, which leaves little room for wastage of time, will be a major focus of orientation programmes across the institutions.

The university is also setting up two joint control rooms one each in North and South campuses from tomorrow and is also stepping up vigil at eating joints across the campus to prevent ragging.

Disciplinary squads have been formed and police pickets established outside colleges which will also have plainclothes women police personnel on duty.

Many colleges will host cultural programmes to welcome the freshers. Yesterday, the university's Equal Opportunities cell hosted an orientation programme to welcome specially-abled students and to assure them that the campus would be disabled friendly.
