GU students in a fix as teachers prefer to check GTU papers

Updated on: Tuesday, July 19, 2011

The fate of about 2,000 engineering students of Gujarat University, aspiring to get into postgraduate courses, hangs in balance because even as admission deadlines approach the varsity is yet to declare their results.

Reason, the Gujarat University (GU) professors did not turn up to evaluate the answer sheets of their students. Rather, they chose to go for assessment of the students of the Gujarat Technology University. "The GTU pays Rs 15 per answer sheet, while the Gujarat University pays only one third, Rs 5, for the same."

The shortage of staff to check the papers has delayed the results of final year students. "Majority of these students have also applied for postgraduate courses, including Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Applications. The GTU has finally given an ultimatum to the students of GU that they should submit their final results by Tuesday or else they would not be considered for admissions."

GU officials said that finally the result of the final year Bachelor of Engineering students will be declared on Tuesday. The GU has called in staff from other universities like Vallabh Vidyanagar, Rajkot and engineering colleges in north Gujarat were called in for checking the papers.

GTU officials said, "We have made it clear that if the GU officials fail to submit their results by Tuesday, they would not be included in the final admission process for the MBA and MCA courses. The final mock round for the admissions ends on Tuesday".
