HC for govt taking over army college

The Delhi high court has indicated it isn't averse to the idea of the capital-based Army Medical College being taken over by the state government if the college decides to shut down.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan Singh made the observation on Monday while hearing a batch of applicants who had come to HC accusing the college of flouting a Supreme Court order to cap reservation for children of defence personnel to 5%.

In the petition, a student alleged that in a recent order, the Supreme Court had directed the college not to reserve 100% for the children of the army personnel but to reserve only 5% of the seats for them. But the authorities preferred to think of closing it, the plea said.

The bench made it clear it won't agree to the closure when thousands suffer because of paucity of medical colleges.
