Energy management in distance education mode from TNAU

The Directorate of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will offer a PG Diploma in Energy Management from the academic year 2011-12.

Offered for the first time, the course is meant for developing skilled human resource in energy management in micro, small and medium enterprises, according to ODL Director V. Valluvaparidasan.

Energy management assumes enormous significance in the backdrop of imminent energy crisis, exploitation and shrinking renewable energy resources.

The main aim of the course is to impart practical-oriented energy-efficient technologies and practices to students, as desired by the industry. The programme covers subjects related to basics of energy, existing energy scenario, energy audit, energy management, renewable energy technology, electrical, mechanical and thermal energy management.

Engineers are eligible to apply for the course.

The duration of the course is one year, comprising two semesters. Study material will be provided.

Classes will be held during weekends or at a continuous stretch for 10 days per semester. Medium of instruction is English.

The application can be downloaded from the university's website www.tnau.ac.in or obtained in person. Last date of receipt of filled-in application is July 22.
