Dr. Dharmambal Government Polytechnic College for Women, Taramani, Chennai, is offering a number of certificate courses to cater to the needs of industries, business and community, apart from regular diploma programmes.

Jewellery Technology is one such course, introduced in 1997, with financial assistance from World Gold Council, a worldwide organisation of gold miners.

The main objective of this course is to provide the latest technical knowhow to artisans and update their skill levels and also help them in getting placement in the jewellery industry. To achieve this, labs were set-up with ergonomically-designed suits to improve productivity and reduce wastage.

At present, one-year courses in the following subjects are offered: Gold smithy, Stone setting, Modern Jewellery, Manufacturing Techniques. Short-term courses are also offered in Assaying and Refining, Jewellery Designing (CAD Rhino), Casting and Finishing Techniques and Jewellery Sales Promotion.

Apart from these programmes, a two-week programme in Gold Jewellery & Silver Vessels Appraising, is being conducted. Classes are being conducted by faculty who have vast experience in the field.
Industrial training

On completion of the long-term course, students can undergo training for a period of one-year (optional) in reputed companies. After the completion of training, they would be placed in reputed companies according to their skill level.
Eligibility

Both male and female students can apply. Minimum qualification required is a pass in Class X. No age limit for admission.
