In relation to the case of "Samacheer Kalvi" to be implemented in Tamil Nadu, the Chennai High Court ordered the Tamil Nadu Governement to execute  the scheme for all the classes this year itself.

The court also directed the government to distribute the books to all students before July 28th.

Samacheer Kalvi, was implemented last year through the previous DMK government in a bid to bring in uniform education across the state. Accordingly, the scheme was introduced to 1st and 6th standards last year. Rest of the classes was to go by the uniform education system from this year onwards.   However, after the change of AIDMK regime, the Tamil Nadu government wanted to do off with Samacheer Kalvi scheme stating poor quality syllabus, spelling errors, translation errors and bad quality books.

Following PILs filed, the HC ordered the government to continue with the scheme.  For which the AIDMK led government appealed to the Supreme Court. The apex court, on June 14th direct the government to form a new expert committee under the leadership of TN chief secretary and also directed the High Court to provide a verdict after enquiring all issues concerning the matter.

After making detailed enquiries, the expert committee filed a petition few days back at the High Court claiming that "Samacheer Kalvi" was non implementable due to poor quality syllabus, spelling errors, translation errors, inferior quality books and that all the books need to be done up again.

In this case, the Chennai High court declared on July 18th that the government should implement the "Samacheer Kalvi" scheme for classes 1 to 10, distribute the necessary books before July 28th and impede the previous syllabus.

Further, the court directed the government to set right the problems found in the scheme within three months by setting up a new panel. It also annulled the amendment to the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of Education Act that sought to put off the implementation of the scheme.
