Following several incidents of violence against Indian students in Australia, community leaders here have organised workshops for new migrants from India to guide them on how to adjust to a new life in this country as well as what to do if they become victims of crime.

A team of prominent community leaders in association with the Indian Consulate have formed 'Committee on Student Related Activities' (COSRA) to educate students about several issues vital for any new migrants to start life in the country.

Appreciating the role of community members on the new initiative, Indian Consulate General S K Behera said. "The COSRA programme is a very first initiative of its type by the Indian diaspora worldwide and it is to be lauded and strongly encouraged."

Two Indian-origin police officers - Ashok Dikshit and Dinesh Nettur - adviced the participants on 'things to do' if they become victims of crime and some rules and regulations for them to follow.

They also warned them against dubious people who try to pretend to help them in changing course or visa.

"Beware of those thugs who will try to rob you of your money by pretending you to help you in changing courses."
