Efforts to sort out professional self financing college issue

Updated on: Monday, July 18, 2011

Efforts are being made to sort out issues relating to admissions to professional self financing colleges in Kerala, Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church, Dr George Alenchery, said.

Consultations would be held with all concerned especially academicians, experts in education and legal luminaries for finding a viable solution to the vexed issue, he said.

The Church has an obivious and clear-cut objective of education, he said adding best efforts were being made to do away with imbroglio in the educational sector, especially  the self-financing professional colleges issue.

The church and faithful should not be afraid of criticism, Alenchery said speaking at a reception accorded to him by the Thrissur Archdiocese here. The promotion and spread of education by the Church were in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ with a view to attaining overall progress of the society, he said.

The opportunity for securing gainful employment for the educated people was only one of the advantages of education, he said adding employment was not the sole objective of education.

He said that Christ had not given the leadership of the Church to a single person. But he selected 12 apostles  for leading the global Church. He stressed the need for consensus of all sections of  the society for the stable unity of the
Church.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the Archbishop of Thrissur, Mar Andrews Thazhath said that the Church was being pushed back not only in Kerala but also the country.
