Admission fees to pvt colleges should be regulated by govt: HC

Updated on: Friday, July 15, 2011

The Kerala High Court held that admission fees to self financing colleges should be regulated by state government.

The direction in this regard was issued by justice Antony Dominic while considering two petitions filed by private management association.

The challenge was against the regulation prepared by the Mahatma Gandhi university for degree admission in merit quota through single window system.

The court said these regulations are not binding on private unaided colleges. However, the court refused to interfere with the admission process this year.

As per sect 73 (A) of Mahatma Gandhi University Act statute admission fees structure and service condition of teaching and non teachning staff of unaided colleges shall be determined by the government.

The government informed that they had constituted a committee in this regard.

The court said it was open to the government to take appropriate steps in this regard.
