Goa University to have chair on Indian diaspora

Goa's NRI Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro said the Centre has agreed to establish a chair on Indian diaspora studies at the Goa University.
 
Faleiro told reporters that Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has agreed to his request to establish the chair.
 
"A part payment has already been made by UGC to the Goa University towards creation of this chair," he said here.
 
"I have requested the governor to advice the university in this regard so that we have a quality institution for the study and research on the Indian diaspora in general and the Goan diaspora in particular," Faleiro said.
 
According to him, the study on migration in all its perse aspects is one of the most fascinating areas of research.
 
"A very large number of universities abroad have this facility."
 
The former Union minister said the chair will deal with the questions and issues regarding the Indian diaspora in depth and in a comparative context along with the study of migration in other countries.
