Kerala CM asks Private Managements to do self introspection

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today wanted CPI-M and Private Self Financing medical college managements to do a self-introspection on their stand on Self Financing College issue.

Inter-church Medical Council Managements and other private medical colleges should accept the reality in the wake of high court allowing government to proceed with admission in 50 per cent government quota of seats in Self Finaicing Medical
Colleges Post graduate course, Chandy told reporters here.

Coming down heavily on 'violent' agitation of pro-left youth and students outfits against government policy on private self financing professional institutions, Chandy said UDF's policy was the same as that of the LDF government's.

There was no comprimise on the question of the principles of social justice and meirt on admission and would not allow private managements to take all seats, Chandy said.

A democratic government could not allow such things, he said adding government would not surrender before private managements.

Government acted very swiftly after getting yesterday's high court order and completed the counselling on 50 per cent of its seats in private colleges by today's morning, he said.

Fees structure have also been formulated by looking into the fees prevailed in three neighbouring state Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhr Pradesh, he said. The fees for post graduate course would come around Rs,Five lakh, State Health Minister Adoor Prakesh said.

Chandy also criticised the CPI-M run management of Pariyaram Medical College at Kannur and refusal of the college to part with 50 per cent seats to government exposed the dual face of CPI-M.
