Special tutoring scheme in more schools

Having enabled about 200 students to improve their academic performances, Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd (CCCL) is planning to spread its Academic Performance Improvement Scheme (APIS) to more schools.

Talking to The Hindu on Thursday, CCCL Chairman and CEO R. Sarbeswar said that the idea was to provide special tutoring and coaching to low performing students of Tamil medium to ensure there were no school dropouts, they would be on a par with other students, could communicate in English and perform better in the coming years.

“I also studied in a Tamil medium school and in the first two years of my college, I found it difficult to communicate with students of others states. My father, a school headmaster, had launched such a scheme years ago. So, I have launched it to help the low scoring students and to make sure they get back on track not just in the classrooms but also in the competitive pursuit of life. From CCCL, we have set aside Rs.10 lakh. The tutoring and coaching expenses are paid by the company.”

Mentioning that APIS yielded good results in the first year of its launch, he said that it would be extended to two to three schools in Chennai – Corporation or government aided schools. Besides, CCCL has eight offices in the country and it would select one school each.

As per the scheme, special tutoring and coaching was provided to about 200 low-performing Tamil medium students of Gopalapuram Boys Higher Secondary School, Chennai from standard sixth to tenth in English, maths and science. APIS will continue during the current academic year too, he said.

He felicitated the toppers of Gopalapuram Boys Higher Secondary School by giving a kit consisting of school bag, uniform, pencil box and notebooks.
