TN middle schools likely to have IT as subject

Chennai: Soon the Govt schools across the state are likely to be updated with IT for students Classes VI and X.

The new proposal seeks to open the world of Information and Communication Technology to students at the middle school-level.

The proposal aims at teaching computer to students early in their schooling so that they will be better equipped to deal with the changing educational scenario, a senior official in the Department of School Education told.

The required hardware for the new initiative has almost been provided under Central and State government sponsored schemes.

The syllabus and the text material have already been developed and primarily Chief Educational Officers of each district would take care of orienting teachers to carry out the programme effectively.

Headmasters of various district schools have already been provided training based on the syllabus during the summer vacations, officials added.

Over 100 computer teachers have been invited from various districts to undergo training conducted by professionals from Microsoft.
