Updated on: Thursday, June 30, 2011

The National Translation Mission, mandated to translate knowledge books in over 22 languages, could soon become a certifying agency generating  employment opportunities.

The issue came up during a review meeting of the mission where HRD Minister Kapil Sibal was apprised about the developments in the organisation.

Along with exploring this possibility, the meeting also suggested exploring the idea of translating open source ware for various disciplines etc, said a release.

The Mission in its first phase is expected to translate knowledge texts at graduate and post-graduate levels available in English in over 15 disciplines into all the 22 languages listed under the 8th schedule, the release said.

Sibal assured the mission heads of all support to address problematic issues, including manpower development, and said adequate measures would be taken to facilitate smooth functioning of the scheme.
