No change in the fee structure for self-financing engineering colleges in the State for 2011-12, says panel.

The panel for Fixation of Fee for Self-financing Professional Colleges disclosed that fees for B.E / B.Tech / B.Arch courses under government quota in non-accredited courses will be Rs. 32, 500 and Rs. 40,000 for accredited courses. For management quota seats, the fee will continue to be Rs. 62,500 for both accredited and non-accredited courses.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Justice N.V. Balasubramaniam, the Chairman of the committee on Fixation of Fee for Self-financing Professional Colleges told that committee will take action if parents and students have specific complaints with proof of violation by any college collecting excess fee.

Explaining the reason behind not increasing the fee from last year, Mr. Balasubramanian said, the extensive review of the data provided by the self-financing engineering colleges, became evident that the income was more than expenditure in majority of the colleges following the present fee structure.

The committee had invited proposals from the 464 self-financing engineering colleges in proper forms. Only 191 colleges had sent back the proposals despite repeated reminders.

On review, it was found that only 76 colleges had sent audited copies and 115 colleges had not submitted audit accounts or quarterly TDS statements of staff.

On June 24, the committee held discussions with the representatives of self-financing engineering colleges. After a careful review, it was decided not to effect any change in the fee structure from last year, he said.
