The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University is offering preparatory programme in Urdu and Hindi medium along with English and Marathi for students from specific linguistic communities.

The University will also be launching its B.A in Urdu soon, Shreenivas Belsare, Head, Corporate Communication, YCMOU, Mumbai Office said.

The University has also been offering relief to those who fail at 10th and 12th examinations by admitting them to its degree preparatory programme, helping them graduate without doing SSC or HSC, he said.

Maharashtra Government issued a Govt. Resolution on May 20 making it clear that those who pass the 1st year B.A. or B.Com of the state open university (through the preparatory course i.e. without doing their HSC) will be treated eligible to apply for any Govt. job wherever an HSC is the basic qualification, he said.

The University decided to ensure that this facility is made available also to the minority communities by offering the preparatory course through Urdu and Hindi media. Each year about 17,000 students appear for SSC from about 2000 Urdu medium schools.

YCMOU has also launched a special programme in the Hindi & English media for the benefit of the Jawans in the armed forces.

Noted academics from universities & colleges have been roped in for formulating the syllabi and writing books, he said.
