Architectural studies gaining momentum

A good combination of Science and arts, shaped by aesthetic senses could fetch you a place in the course that teaches the art of building : "architecture".

The nature of work of an architect is multifaceted. Beginning with preparing the blueprint culminating in giving final touch to the building, the entire responsibility lies with the Architect. So he should keep in the mind, customer satisfaction, safety parametres, beauty of the building before drafting a plan for the building.

 

Once the plan is ready he has to get licence to carry out the construction work. After convincing level of talks between the surveyors and the engineers, the construction work would get to start.

 

Basic requirements : Aesthetic sense, creativity, designing abilities, good learning capacities, mathematical ability, skilled communication abilities, proven ability in taking responsibilities are the essential requirements to excel in the field of architecture.

 

Job opportunities : Those who pass out with architecture degree have fair chances to get jobs in government departments. For example ; Railway, Postal departments, state and metropolis development departments, PWD, Urban development authority, Housing boards are some of the areas that would offer jobs to the architects.

 

Private builders/ promoters, construction advisors provide architects with jobs as far as private organisations are concerned. Architects can also start own consultancy.

 

How to make way into this field ? To join in the B.Arch course an applicant must have completed Higher Secondary with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as main subjects. Should have secured an aggregate of 50% in all these subjects. He should take up the National Architecture Aptitude Test ( NAAT). NATA Tests the candidates aesthetic sense as well as drawing abilities. It includes paper based drawing tests and computerised drawing tests. Paper based test would last for 2 hours and computer based test would last for an hour.
