Engineering colleges everywhere ! Where does the quality lie ?

Updated on: Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Every year new engineering colleges keep on mushrooming. It has become a trend amongst the bigwigs to make an investment and flourish a business in the form of Engineering college. The business tycoons feel having acres of land in the city outskirts, and good amount to make investment is fairly enough to start an engineering college. This trend has resulted in tremendous increase in the number of engineering colleges in Tamilnadu. A statistical report says that the no of engineering college in Tamilnadu amounts to some 15% of the total no of engineering colleges across India. The entire nation has 3241 engineering colleges of which 486 are in Tamilnadu. Doesn't this send an alarming sound? The higher the quantity does not mean the more the quality. So it is here we need to stop and have a serious check.

Few years back there was a boom in the Teacher Training Institutes. All of a sudden, the craze for Teacher Training erupted voluminous. Based on the demand the training institutes also grew day by day. Quantity increased, but fake institutes snailed their entry. After repeated complaints the government, now has finally intervened. A massive cleansing is being carried out. Sizeable number of teacher training colleges are now being deprived of their licences. The recent hike in number of engineering colleges also indicate that the same ending may happen to such engineering colleges which are not qualitative.

Why is it alarming?: There are some brand new colleges which manage to admit students by attractive advertisements. The students pay huge sum of money as fees and get admitted to the college, dreaming success. Only after landing in the college they find the grey areas. There are plenty of private engineering colleges which dont even have the required infrastructure. Studying engineering is promising, no doubt! But your selection of college should also be reasonable. Even if your score is not up to the mark, dont select a college for the sake of obtaining engineering degree. Give importance the reputation of the college. Dont ever fall a prey to the luring advertisements that claim the availability of seats is narrowing. Because everywhere  sizeable number of seats are lying vacant in the engineering colleges. So make sure that your money, time and your efforts dont go futile.

The not so famous colleges are really a grave threat to the students. So to avert such problems, Kalvimalar website has designed and developed a weblink exclusively for engineering counselling. Students could collect a complete guidance about the engineering counselling process as well as the selection of colleges and courses. Parents and students would get benefited out of the guidlines posted in the website.
