Kerala CM stresses need for new education policy

Stressing the need to frame a new education policy for Kerala envisaging free education for all, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said equal importance should be given to it for maintaining social justice and protecting rights of minorities communities.

"Kerala is lagging behind in education compared with the progress in science and technology. Free education to all should be our motive", he said after inaugurating a catering institute at Choondacherry in Pala here.

Chandy said Kerala has realised its limitations in education in 2001." We should march ahead... otherwise Kerala will not get any facilities in future", he said.

Finance Minister K M Mani, who spoke on tourism potential, said 75 lakh domestic tourists and 1.50 lakh international tourists  visit Kerala annually.

Mani said the country would require 60 lakh people in the hospitality sector by 2020, up from 40 lakh at present if the present tourism growth of 15 per cent was maintained.
