The Indian Institute of Management's Tiruchirapalli wing was commissioned here this evening at the NIT campus, with an intake of 88 students.

"The present intake of students is 88. Within a few years the capacity will be increased to 200," M Damodaran, Chairman, Board of governors, IIM-T (former SEBI chairman) said speaking at the inaugural function.

He said IIM-T was sanctioned 88 seats due to overwhelming response from students as against sanctioned strength of 60 candidates in other newly commissioned IIMs in Rohtak, Ranchi and Raipur.

He said that among the 12 PhD faculty members recruited was Prof. Madoun Moloud from France in HR and organisational behaviour.

Prafulla Agnihotri, Director of IIM T said it is only students who build, cherish and nurture IIMs in India. "I am hopeful of creating a brand equity for IIM T in a few years.

Chief guest Gopal Vittal, Executive Director of Hindustan Unilever Ltd., said students should emulate excellence. "An inpidual should find out what is inside the self and thereby inculcate the habit of competing within oneself to achieve success," he said.
