Mandatory training for newly appointed college teachers

Updated on: Thursday, June 18, 2009

Coimbatore: Before joining duty all teachers appointed by colleges will undergo one-week intensive training at the university.

As most of the teachers appointed to teach in colleges were post-graduates or doctorates and do not possess B.Ed. or M.Phil, the quality of teaching is not up to the mark, hence this training has become a necessity, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam said.

The one week training would cover pedagogy, teaching methods, effective syllabus designing, question paper setting, interactive methods of teaching and communication, etc.

For acquiring qualification permission a 60-hour training would be mandatory. The appointed coleges would take the responsibility for sending the teachers for the training.

Towards the cost of training, the colleges would have to pay Rs. 1,000 for each teacher.
