Excess fee money to be refunded

Madurai: Following evidence collected by Department of School Education, the schools in the district have been asked to refund excess money colleted from students.

According to official sources, based on complaints from parents and public various aided schools were inspected and found to have collected excess fees. Few management schools were also found to have collected fee in excess of what was prescribed by the State Government.
So far, inspections have been carried out at schools in Tirumangalam, Tirunagar, Usilampatti, Melur, Sholavandhan areas and at a few schools in Madurai Corporation area. Some schools have accepted to refund the excess money.

Senior department officials including the Chief Educational Officer and three District Educational Officers were carrying out enquiries into the complaints.

The inspections conducted in schools were not contrived and action would be taken against schools found guilty, the Chief Educational Officer, R. Pandurangan said. A detailed report would be presented to the Director of School Education recommending action if the schools do not take appropriate steps, he said.
