Kerala government to conduct reading week

Kerala government would conduct a `Vayana Varam' (Reading Week) from June 19 in memory of literacy campaigner P N Panicker, state education minister P K Abdu Rabb said june 15th.

Addressing a press conference here, Rabb said the week-long programme was being organised jointly by the department of Education, Information and Public Relations department and the P N Panicker Foundation.
 
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the reading  week at a function to be held at Tagore theatre on Sunday. Culture Minister K C Josehph, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar, former Education Minister M A Baby and playwright Kavalam Narayana Panicker would attend the inaugural.
 
A special assembly would be held at all schools on June 20 to take a pledge to promote reading and creative thinking. `Guruvandanam' would also be held in schools, the minsiter said.
