The European Union will launch a country-wide hunt for researchers and collaborators for its eight-billion euro initiative for cooperation in research and innovation.

Representatives of the EU and its member states will hold seminars and road shows in 27 cities across the country beginning June 13 to create awareness about the upcoming initiatives for research under the 7th Framework Research Programme (FP7).
"The campaign, from June 1324, will also showcase the  flagship scheme of EU - FP7 - which is open to participation of researchers and companies from all over the world, including India," a EU statement said.

The FP7 has so far already funded 127 projects with Indian participation and has involved 218 Indian research institutions.

The road show will create awareness on the EU's upcoming initiatives under FP7, inviting bids from research organisations, universities and industry as well as SMEs forming consortia of partners from Europe and across the world including India, the statement said.

This EU initiative will cover a vast range of scientific disciplines, public policy areas and sectors such as water, climate change, energy and food security, health and aging population, it said.

"With this campaign we are showing that Europeans can join forces for rising to the challenges of such a large country as India and have actually a real offer to make a contribution to mutual growth in research and innovation," said Daniele Smadja, Head of the EU Delegation to India.
