Kolkata: Vocational Academy, a joint initiative of Collabrant Group and Strive (an incubation of IFMR Trust) plans to set up 12 more vocational training schools, primarily in the semi-urban and rural parts of the country, in order to equip youth in these areas for basic jobs, according to its Managing Director, Srivatsan.

Vocad has already set up eight schools in various parts of India and is offering courses such as lifestyle, telecom, healthcare, travel and hospitality under the emerging business segment.

The academy proposed to launch several courses under the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and technical categories by the end of 2009, Srivatsan said.

The academy would equip the rural and semi-urban youth with requisite skills in order to meet the expectation of modern India, while generating opportunities at the grass root level.

'The emphasis is on providing a wide range of programmes through a demand-led approach to enhance and facilitate employability, career opportunities and entrepreneurship skills,' he said.

Vocad would offer job-oriented courses, customised especially keeping the present day market needs in mind.

All the courses offered are of three-month duration and the course fee ranges between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,500, he said.

Vocad has tie-ups with about 40 brands that would offer internship and employment opportunities to students on successful completion of their course, he added.
