No uniform, raincoats for Thane civic schoolchildren

Updated on: Friday, June 10, 2011

Thousands of students studying in the civic schools here will not get their usual quota of uniform, books, raincoats, sandals and school bags this year.

This announcement was made today by Suresh Gada, Chairman of Thane Civic Education Board. He cited lack of adequate funds to discontinue the scheme this year.

He said the School Board had sought Rs 21 crore from the local civic body but the corporation gave only Rs 12.35 crore. With this budget, it will not not be possible to provide these facilities to the students, he said.

Gada wanted the Municipal Commissioner to intervene in the matter and ensure that civic school students do not suffer.
