HC allows 3 Engineering colleges to collect same fee as previous year-

Kerala High Court granted permission to three self-financing engineering colleges to provisionally collect the same fees they had imposed in the previous academic year.

The Justice P A Mohammed Committee had last week reduced the fees of Rajagiri Engineering College, Marian Engineering College and Jyoti Engineering College, who are members of the Catholic Engineering College Management Association.

As per the Committee's direction, the colleges were permitted to levy tution fees at the rate of Rs 40,000 per annum and a deposit of Rs 75,000 for three years.

Challenging this direction, the Association and the college managements had approached the High Court.

When the case came up for hearing today, Justice P R Ramachandra Menon permitted the colleges to provisionally levy fees similar to previous year from the students.

However the fees are subject to the final High Court order in the issue and if found to be in excess, the management has to return the excess fees to the students, he ruled.

During the previous academic year, the colleges had collected Rs 75,000 per year as tuition fees and Rs one lakh as deposit.
