Hyderabad: Nidhi Modani, Rajat Gangwar and Siddhartha Basu secured 175 marks out of 200 and topped the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-2009.

However, Modani was ranked all-India first, Gangwar second and Basu third. The Nalsar University of Law, which conducted the all-India entrance test, announced the results

As many as 12,282 students took the test for 1,150 seats in 11 universities across the country. Nalsar has 70 seats in the open category while 10 are reserved for foreigners.

All the successful candidates would get intimation letters in the next four to five days. The CLAT-2009, which was scheduled for May 17, had to be postponed to May 31 due to leakage of question paper.

Releasing the results, Nalsar University of Law vice-chancellor Veer Singh said, 'Taking into consideration the hardships of all the selected candidates and accompanying parents to Nalsar, Hyderabad, for completing the admission formalities through centralised counselling, the Core Committee of CLAT-2009 has decided that the first round of admission to 11 national law universities will be completed on the basis of merit-cum-preference.'

The annual fee for the five-year course has been raised to Rs 85,000 from Rs 45,000.

Candidates who have been offered seats in various national law universities based on their merit-cum-preference need to confirm their acceptance of offer of admission to the CLAT-2009 office along with demand draft of Rs 10,000 (Rs 5,000 for SC/ST) failing which the candidate shall lose the right to admission.

The candidates who confirm their acceptance should report and finalise their admission formalities at the law university concerned between July 1 and July 3. Any seat that remains unfilled would be offered to other candidates as per their merit-cum-preference on July 6. The implementation committee of CLAT-2009 would meet, if need be, on July 5, to fill the remaining vacant seats.

Further, the VC said the admission process would close on July 17.

'Classes will commence from July 10 at Nalsar. Despite the postponement, the schedule will remain the same. It was not a leak. Some mischief happened during the transit and some text copies were stolen. Police investigation is on. We have got a preliminary report from Blue Dart. A rough estimate shows we suffered a loss of Rs 20 lakh. We will move ahead with the legal formalities after the admission process is over,' Singh added.

CLAT-2009 results have been posted on www.clat.ac.in and also on www.nalsar.ac.in. Scanned answer sheets of each students would also be uploaded on the websites in a couple of days, the authorities said.
