Summer workshops for actors and professionals

The British Council in association with the Central School of Speech and Drama, London (CSSD), will conduct an innovative series of workshops on Performing Shakespeare, and Improvisation in Acting as well as professional development workshops from 20-31 May.

Acting

The acting workshops will be conducted by Mark Kane, professional actor and trainer who also teaches Shakespeare to students at the world famous Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Mark will conduct workshops on Performing Shakespeare (aimed at anyone who is interested in acting and has an interest in Shakespeare. For those who would like a practical experience in a professional environment), Improvisation in Acting (for anyone who is interested in acting or enjoys a playful and creative response to life) and Improvisation in Acting-Advanced (Building on ‘Improvisation –an introduction’ this course will further develop the ability to improvise by working on extended improvisation exercises commonly used in actor training in the UK.)

 
Voice and Communication

From May 20- 25, the voice and communication workshops will be conducted by professional voice tutor, Anne Walsh, who has several years’ experience of working in accredited British drama schools, including the CSSD. Anne will conduct workshops on Confident Communication in Business (for those who want to develop inter-personal skills in professional settings: vocal presentations, with stakeholders; team and one-to-one meetings and other communication scenarios), Performance in Presentation (to practice and develop the prerequisite skills in voice, confident body language, eye contact and physical presence used by performers for maximum impact in the professional arena) and Telephone Skills for Impact, Influence and Building Relationships (useful for those geared towards sales: but also for those working in customer-facing positions in; customer service, call centres, management, retail and service-industries; administration, reception/telephony; mail order, the hospitality and tourist industries).

 

The workshops have been developed, complete with materials by CSSD and jointly certified by the British Council. Each participant will receive a Certificate jointly issued by the British Council and Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London.

 

Three selected participants will win free Courses at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where the course fee is fully sponsored by CSSD and travel and living will be borne by respective participants.

 

The workshops have been designed to be highly practical and participant focused featuring group work and discussions, pair work, role-plays, targeted exercises around breath and posture and lots of relevant activities with debrief and analysis sessions.
