Govt schools in U'khand to get basic amenities by May 31

Acting under Supreme Court order, the Uttarakhand government has directed its education department to ensure potable water, toilet and electricity facilities in all the 17,142 schools in the state within a month.
   
Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar has asked the officials to carry out a fresh school-wise survey and ensure a fixed time frame for the purpose, an official release said.

Uttarakhand School Education Director C S Gwal said the apex court had directed all the state governments to provide the basic amenities in all schools by May 31.
   
Kumar directed the officials concerned to make rain water harvesting compulsory in schools situated very far from water sources.
   
The Chief Secretary said all schools should be provided electricity under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme.
