The MCD will introduce bio-metric system of attendance for teachers and students in its primary schools in the city from July.

Leader of the House Subhash Arya said this today after election to the MCD Education Committee, which saw councillor Mahinder Nagpal being re-elected as Chairman.

"Besides teachers, students will also mark their presence through the system," Arya said.

Nagpal said the MCD "is seriously considering implementing a clause of RTE in which local bodies have been entrusted with the responsibility of imparting education upto 14 years of age  under which the civic body can now extend its schools upto middle level."

He said MCD is also planning to provide smart cards to its students, which will contain their details.

Councillor Narain Singh was also re-elected as Chairman of the MCD Rural Areas Committee.
