Delhi HC issues notice to schools in Delhi

The Delhi High Court issued notices to the city government and a private school on a of parents' plea for an order for intervention of the education department in the school management's decision to close down the institute.
   
The school management has closed the school since April 1 on the ground of MCD's demolition drive and the management has decided to shift it to a different location and the classes for current academic session would commence from July.
   
Justice Kailash Gambhir issued a notice to the Directorate of Education and the S K Convent School, Nehru Place, and sought their responses by July 5 on the parents' plea that the government required to take over the school instead of allowing it to be closed.
   
The court also directed the Director of Education, Government of Delhi, to inquire into the matter and submit a report within two weeks.    

Filing a petition through counsel Ashok Aggarwal, the parents submitted the act of the school is against the Delhi School Education Rules.
   
"Once a school is established, it becomes a public property as it entails public element and therefore, the same can not be closed down without the prior permission of the government", the petitioners said.
   
According to the parents, the private school management has decided to shift to another building in Sangam Vihar, which is far away for the students to commute and the building is without any basic facilities like drinking water, toilets and the same is located in the premises of another private school.
   
The court fixed July 5 for further hearing of the petition.
