Students should learn all Countries literature

Salem: Language and literature students should read literatures from other countries and languages.

Language students should study various literatures within the country and make details about their influence, inter-relatedness and historical evaluation, former Professor and Head of Department of English, Bharathidasan University, K. Chellappan said.

Delivering a speech at the National Seminar on Confluence of Literatures by the Departments of Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit and English of Sri Sarada College for Women Literatures sponsored by University Grants Commission.

He said literatures across the world were organically connected, even though they were physically separate. All literatures talk about certain fundamental issues and encouraged the students to compare literatures to establish their unity and inter-relatedness.

Inaugurating the seminar, A. Arivunamby, the Dean, Subramaniya Bharathy School of Tamil, Pondicherry University said the languages in India should be viewed as a wealth.

He emphasized that the languages should be used to promote unity and spread literature and the people should give due respect all the languages.
