Link global resource for common benefit: Dr. Kalam

London: For his distinction in public service, the Queen's University, Belfast awarded the former Indian President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, with an honorary Doctorate of Laws.

The degree was conferred on him at a special ceremony on Wednesday. Queen's Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Gregson described Mr. Kalam as an 'outstanding world statesman, scientist, educator and visionary' who had 'inspired millions' in India and around the world.
Mr. Kalam called for pooling global resources for common good. He said that in todayâ€™s world with no boundaries, countries could not afford to remain isolated as problems affecting one country had implication for others.

Mr. Kalam said that the youth possessed lot of anxiety, which is dangerous while dealing conflicts. But he said, 'Youth can do it.'
He voiced for innovative leadership in order to bring people together and build a peaceful world.

An official spokesman of the university said its links with India included student exchanges between its School of English and Hyderabad University and a research partnership with the National Institute of Immunology, Delhi.
