Good news for aspiring doctors

Ahmedabad: There is some good news for aspiring doctors! Gujarat is likely to get approval for 480 additional seats in medical colleges across the state in the coming days. The approval will be given by the Medical Council of India (MCI); a meeting scheduled on Wednesday will give final touches to the approvals. Currently, there are 1,555 medical seats in the state in 11 medical colleges.

By next year, the state government will have given approvals for eight new medical colleges in the city, creating 900 additional seats. The state health department has already started issuing essential certificates' to these eight institutes.

As for the current year, about 150 seats each will be approved for LG Medical College, Bhuj Medical College, a private college in Bhavnagar, while Surat's SMIMER institute will get 30 more seats. MCI has disapproved 100 seats for Kesar-SAL this year too.
