The Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchi (IIM-T), thanks to the support provided by the mentor institution, the Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore, will have the distinction of being the first among the newly-started IIMs to take off with its own faculty.

After a process of rigorous scrutiny, IIM-T has chosen 14 faculty with doctorates and substantial experience from amongst hundreds of applicants from other IIMs, IITs, and top-notch business schools across the country and the globe.

Not only will the curriculum be global — IIM-T is now in the process of collaborating with four internationally reputed B-schools, two each in USA and Europe, to evolve content with a global perspective — a right ambience for experiential learning will be created for top-notch CAT achievers choosing IIM-T as their destination.

There will be student and faculty exchanges with the global institutional partners, the first Director of IIM-T Prafulla Agnihotri told The Hindu Education Plus.

The IIM-T has likewise partnered with India's 20 leading industries, including Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Hindustan Lever Limited, and Procter and Gamble, for providing the students the best of theory and practical exposure in an enriching value system.

Dr. Agnihotri felt certain that the IIM-T will be in the comity of India's best 10 B-schools in five years' time. The placement of the first and second batches would determine the IIM-T's top ranking, he said exuding confidence.

With ample facilities in place on the premises of the National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi, from where the IIM-T will function temporarily for at least two years, students will find the social environment quite conducive. Facilities such as gymnasium, swimming pool, well-equipped playgrounds and library on the premises of the NIT-T augurs very well for IIM-T to attract the best of students, said Dr. Agnihotri.

The location of the over 170-acre site for the permanent campus along the Tiruchi-Pudukottai highway is a key advantage. It is at a distance of just seven kilometres from the airport and 15 kilometres from Tiruchi. Dr. Agnihotri plans to convert the campus into an island of greenery equipped with all the academic and recreational requirements.

The IIM-T Director has envisaged a pivotal role for the institution as a socio-cultural and economic partner of the already industrially developed Tamil Nadu.

“We will offer consulting and training services for the industries in the IT, automobile and other sectors while partnering for mutual benefit,” said Dr. Agnihotri, adding that there was no plan as of now to offer Executive MBA programme.
