Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation M S Gill and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy inaugurated two new blocks in the C R Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Sciences (AIMSCS) in the University of Hyderabad.
The Biological and Environmental Sciences Block was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, while the Mathematical Sciences Block was opened by Gill.

AIMSCS was established to conduct, promote and carry out research and advanced study in mathematics, statistics and computer science and to disseminate the advances made in the three areas.

Observing that the institute has great significance to the country, Gill promised all possible government help.

Showering praise on C R Rao for his achievements in the fields of statistics and mathematics, he expressed confidence that the institute would scale new heights and make contributions to the country.

It was only natural that the Prime Minister has sanctioned adequate funds to the institute when C R Rao met him, Gill said.

Agreeing with the Chief Minister, who spoke earlier, Gill said health and education should get importance in priorities of the Government.

Reddy said his government was providing Rs 3,500 crore per year for fees reimbursement for 25 lakh students as a means to empower the poorer sections of the society.

Education gives self-confidence and empowers an individual and it is education alone that can make India a global leader, he said.

Hyderabad is proud to host a number of prestigious institutions like IIT, BITS-Pilani, the Central University and now the AIMSCS, Reddy said.

Observing that his dream has come true today, the CM said the original idea to set up the institute in the Osmania University had to be abandoned due to some problems. However, UoH Vice Chancellor Seyed E Hasnain agreed to provide land within five minutes of his meeting with him, he said.

S B Rao, Director of AIMSCS, said the institute has entered into MoUs with the IIT, Hyderabad, IIT, Bombay, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, among others, for pursuing research and various academic activities.

AIMSCS will have research projects worth Rs 40 crore for the next five years and it aims at gaining leadership in cutting edge areas of research in mathematical sciences, cryptography, cryptanalysis, signal processing, cognitive sciences, bio-informatics, among others.
