IT unshakable for next 10 years: Educationist

 With several job opportunities in the offering for prospective candidates, IT segment would be strong for another 10 years, until 2020 revealed for Educationist, A. Jayaprakash Gandhi.

Speaking on the second day of the Vazhikatti programme held recently at Kovai, the education counsellor told, " this year the cut-off marks for professional courses like Medicine, Engineering is likely to come down by 0.5, as 9000 additional seats are available due the sanctioning of 300 seats in separate courses at various leading educational institutions in Tamil Nadu. However, the competition is likely to be very high as no entrance exams are held.      

India witnessed tremendous growth in the filed of computers from 1991-2000, road and   infrastructure development from 2001 – 2010 and from 2010-2020 would experience excellent growth in the field of IT and power.

Several new PG courses have come up in field of computers and Energy in many institutions. 

Recently, about 2 lakh candidates obtained employment in India’s top 5 IT institutions.

Currently, as personal interviews are conducted from the 7th semester in BE, more job opportunities are available to take. Not much difference persist between BE computer science and BE Information Technology, so students needn’t be much worried about it. .


With the a cut-off more than 197, it would be possible to get admission in top 5 colleges with specialization of your choice in Tamil Nadu. All the courses would only facilitate to get mostly similar sort of jobs, its up to the students to develop other employable skills. Students having obtained cut-off 185 to 195 can opt for BE Computer Science or Information Technology.

If planning to select EEE or ECE, start preparing for GATE exams right from the second year onwards. A first class in BE along with good scores at GATE would give a fair chance to get into India's premier research organizations like ISRO and Baba Atomic Research Center. GATE exam scores are only valid for two and half years. If joining specializations like Civil and Mechanical, completing ME would be advisable.

As GATE doesn’t comprise Mechatronics and Instrumentation rethink before joining these branches in BE.

He also stressed not to join any course in haste paying hefty sums for management quota seats as students from OC with a cut-off above 188, BC above 185, MBC above 180 and SC& ST above 60 would positively get seats through counselling.

A cut-off more than 195.5 would facilitate to get into Govt medical colleges.

Shortly, "Pharma D", a six-year course is likely to be introduced. In Tamil Nadu this course is available at PSG, SRM, Ramachandra, JSS and Ramakrishna educational institutions", he told.
