Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, D. Purandeswari, has highlighted the need to groom students as productive partners of development as the country needs the strong shoulders of younger generation to achieve the status of developed nation.

Addressing the graduation day function at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam, near Sriperumpudur on Saturday, the Minister said that quality education is the powerful driver of socio-economic growth. At this juncture, when the nation is undergoing the transition of becoming a developed country from an emerging market, it is imperative to make our students productive partners in development. Pointing out that the support of the youth is crucial for the country to sail through the transition period, Ms. Purandeswari called upon students to develop leadership qualities and look for innovative ideas so that they could make the country as a land of ideas.

Students should also try to elevate themselves to the status of job givers from job seekers.

Commending the management of Rajalakshmi Engineering College for their contribution in the field of higher education, she said higher education institutions should keep in their mind that the wider definition of education — concentration of mind rather than mere collection of information — is the need of the hour.
