While a majority of Mumbaikars were glued to their television sets on Thursday, following the India-Australia cricket match, 18-year-old Kaustubh Patel had locked himself up in his room so that he could prepare himself for his paper on Friday. “It’s our final paper and I was sincerely hoping that no major India match would take place before our last paper. Unfortunately, that happened,” said Patel, an HSC Arts student of Mithibai College.
Patel is one of the very few students in the city who are still waiting to get done with their board exams. While most HSC students are enjoying every bit of their vacation, a select few are still waiting for their board exams to get over and the ongoing Cricket World Cup matches are only making this task all the more difficult. Arts students will appear for their last paper, Psychology, on Friday.
Similarly, some Central Board Secondary Examinations (CBSE) Class XII students will appear for their Political Science paper, and Indian School Certificate (ISC) students for their Computer Science (Paper I)/ Biotechnology (Paper I) on Friday. “We can’t schedule board exams based on such things,” said the principal of an ICSE school.
A few, though, were smart enough to prepare for their papers before time. “I had done most of my studies during the prelims,” said a Class XII student of Ramniranjan Podar School at Santacruz. She added that those who follow cricket are struggling to concentrate on their studies. “We are not only missing the Cricket World Cup, but we will also miss the IPL matches that will commence on April 8,” said Ansh Anjaria, a CBSE student.
