Karunya to observe World Water Day

Hosting a national level workshop on water management, Karunya University plans to observe World Water Day (WWD) on 22 March. 

Karunya University is organizing a National Level Experience-sharing Workshop on “Water Management Strategies for Arid and Semi-arid Zones� on the 22 and 23 March to coincide with the World Water Day 2011 and the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Karunya University.

The workshop is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Several experts from reputed R&D organizations such as PRL, BARC, NIOT, ISRO, CWRDM, and academic institutions like IIT-M, NIT-K, NIT-C, Anna University etc. would be presenting papers at the Workshop.  

Prof. Yoram Oren, Head, Desalination and Wastewater Treatment Division of Zuckerberg Institute of Water Research, Ben-Gurion University will deliver the key note address on water treatment and Dr. S. M. Rao, former Associate Director of BARC will deliver a special lecture on application of isotopes in water resources studies.

Other sessions of the workshop will be hydrologic and hydrogeologic considerations, water quality management and treatment, water for livelihood and  towards integrated water resources management.

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India expects the workshop to identify a network of institutions to transfer existing technologies to the field to solve water problems in the arid and semi-arid zones.
