Khalsa College is now Khalsa University

The 119-year-old Khalsa College, a private educational institution, was declared a university.
The Khalsa College Charitable Trust, which runs the college, declared it as a Khalsa University.
     
Trust Honorary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the necessary permission in this regard had been obtained from concerned authorities.
     
The Vice-Chancellor and the Pro Vice-Chancellor would be appointed within a fortnight, he told.
     
He said admission for fresh students would begin next month.
     
We have direct competition with government-run Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar)," Chinna said.
     
He said students from all over Punjab, in particular from the rural belt with poor economic background, would be provided education at nominal fees.
