Class X toppers felicitated

Chennai: The State government on Monday honoured the top rankers of Class X public examination.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ordered the increase, presented cheques to nine such students and laptops to students, an official release issued on Monday.

Increasing the cash prize from this year, the first three rank-holders will get Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively. Till now, they were awarded with Rs. 7,500, Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 5,000.

Having taken Tamil as first language, the scheme covers for those securing the first three ranks at the State and district level.

The State Govt will bear the entire cost for higher studies of those students.
Previously, the scheme did not cover rank-holders in the Matriculation stream and from now, they would also be given cash prizes.

At a cost of about Rs. 3.26 crore, one thousand and one hundred students who secured 1,000 ranks were being given laptops, the release added.
