Going Green

Updated on: Wednesday, March 09, 2011

The city is fast waking up to the needs of a green environment as was evident in the No Plastic Week organised by the Eastern Institute For Integrated Learning In Management (EIILM) from February 28- March 6. It eventually culminated in a Green Run.

Aimed at creating awareness about environmental issues amongst young citizens and future professionals, it also sought to identify key threats and work towards creating a more responsible and responsive corporate citizen. From seminars, debates, presentations and film shows on environmental issues, it also saw a week long exhibition of bio-degradable products as a substitute for plastic.

A distance of 8 and half kilometers was covered by hundreds of students and citizens following a route from Hare Street through Strand Road, Hastings, Rabindra Sadan, Chowringhee Road, to Esplanade, Bentick Street and finally finishing at 6, Waterloo Street – the EIILM Headquarters.

As part of the initiative this year the American Library organized ‘Environment Quiz’ at the EIILM campus on March 3. It was conducted by Scott E Hartmann, deputy director, American Centre, Kolkata.
