Govt College Sathiala to have Regional Centre of GNDU

To improve academic standards of higher education here, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) will take over Government College Sathiala to run the institute as a Regional Centre of the University, an official said.   
The university shall take over the college shortly for construction of boys and girls hostels and other facilities, for which the government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 9 crore to the university, out of which Rs 4.5 crore has already been released, he said.
   
This is in addition to opening a Government Co-Educational College at Verka bypass Amritsar which shall also be run by GNDU, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar K S Pannu
said in a release issued here.
   
Sathiala College, which was basically a rural college carrying strength of 346 students and the infrastructural facilities of the college was quite inadequate inspite of the fact that the college was spreading over 22 acres of land near Baba Bakala, Pannu said.
   
The University shall run the college from the coming academic year starting from July, 2011 with four B.tech courses besides BBA and BCom, he added.
